*Reading Tools to Boost Comprehension for MLs and ALL Secondary Learners (Virtual) (6-12) - Presented by Dr. Katie McKnight

Description

Research has shown that visually organizing information helps students better comprehend newly acquired material. When educators empower students to create strong visual pictures, it supports their ability to learn concepts, information, and vocabulary. Students are literally able to see connections and relationships between facts, terms, and ideas. In this half-day, virtual session, dedicated teacher and award-winning author Dr. Katie McKnight will show WVEC educators how to tap into the power of visual Tools for Learning to support active learning, develop student comprehension, and achieve success in the classroom. These tools are perfect for Multilingual Learners to make content more accessible and provide opportunities to develop language & literacy skills, as well as collaborate with peers. We will offer the K-5 Session from 9-11:30amET and the Grades 6-12 session will be held virtually from 12:30-3:00pm. You can register for one session or both! Participants will receive a copy of The Big Book of Graphic Organizers: 100 Reproducible Organizers that Help Kids with Reading, Writing, and the Content Areas created by Dr. Katie McKnight.
