*PD Pop Plus 2-Day Series: Special Opportunity! Long-Term Success for Experienced Multilinguals (4-12) - Presented by Beth Skelton and Tan Huynh

In this two-part PD Pop Series, teachers will develop an assets-based approach to working with secondary MLs who have been classified as English Learners for five or more years. Based on Beth and Tan’s book, Long-Term Success for Experienced Multilinguals, these two sessions will demonstrate practical strategies for teaching experienced MLs in any content area. By applying the instructional framework for experienced MLs, participants will learn how to plan lessons that develop academic language in content lessons. It is recommended that you have a copy of Long Term Success for Experienced Multlingual Learners for these sessions.

Day 1 - Long-Term Success for Experienced Multilinguals Part 1 (Beth Skelton) - Learning Outcomes: 

• Identify the linguistic, cultural, and experiential assets experienced multilinguals bring to their education.
• Relate the instructional framework to  experienced multilinguals 
• Apply learning strategies to develop independence in experienced multilinguals

Day 2 - Long-Term Success for Experienced Multilinguals Part 2  (Tan Huynh) - Learning Outcomes: 

• Engineer exams and performance-based assessments
• Analyze the language demands expected of the assessment 
• Plan linguistic scaffolds that establish comprehensible input and structure output based on the assessment
